PHACE THEATRE - THE WIPERS TIMES.
Great true story about two WW1 soldiers (Roberts & Pearson ) who - find a printing press and produce a newspaper, the contents of which contained a lot of humour. Proof that humour, however black was around during one of the darkest times in history.
Interestingly a lot of the humour was at the expense of the British officers and not the Germans. Much to their annoyance.
Even more Interesting and brilliantly observed is the Germans calling the British soldiers "Lions led by donkeys..."
I get the idea this early newspaper inspired a lot of the satire that followed in the late 50's and 1960's. Private eye for one!
