THE FRENCH HOUSE..
"Is a listed pub and dining room at 49 Dean St, London.
It was previously known as the York Minster, but was informally called "the French pub" or "the French house" by its regulars. It sells more Ricard than anywhere else in Britain and only serves beer in half-pints, except on April 1st when a recent custom has been that Sugg's of Madness fame serves the first pint of the day." |

The French house has a special place in my memories i have to say.
Not as much these days but in the past it was always my first port of call. Whether meeting my brother (above right) who had just cycled down from Nottingham!
Or an afternoon spent with my best mate John P - sipping halfs and looking out onto the soho streets thinking up mischiefs...ah...
Often I would end up at The French House just in time for opening time on Sunday (after a drink with whoever next to the hostel in a Holborn doorway) - After i'd finished work at 6am in the Elephant & Castle. (Corsica Studio's)
Once inside the pubs appeal is overwhelming. Old black & white photographs of it's famous past clientel adorn the walls.
I just love It's history, It's resistance to change. ("Switch your phone off!")
The certain je ne sais quoi that no other pub in Soho has. Or for that matter London.
Yes I am fond of it. And One particular lone wolf afternoon in particular..... 😊

A FRENCH HOUSE TALE
One lone wolf visit to the The French House after the Saturday had blurred into some Sunday.
I was wonderfully drinking when I wonderfully met Tymon Dogg.
I was aware of his work, with The Clash most of all.
But listening to his stories of Nico and more was such a joy.
We drank and laughed.
Then drank and laughed more.
When as time was called.
The French House frowned.
We said good night to a time i'll treasure.
Hope your well Mr Dogg,
I remember it being a pleasure x
