Podge
We love this but don't ask me to describe it - brilliant maybe?
What happens when you combine a love for off the wall manga series Nichijou and an equal love for Cornelius, Japan’s very own modern day Brian Wilson? Podge. That’s what happens Armed with a synthesizer and a laptop, Podge’s creative force 20 year old Adam Charo, began recording in his bedroom at the age of 15. The results of these bedroom sessions can be found on his self-released debut album ‘The Hero Appears’.
Heavily influenced by the whimsical aesthetics of Japanese pop culture, Podge describes his sound as “joyful, catchy, glitchy and uplifting” and with new single ‘Yuka-Peno’ its not hard to see why. Recorded at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios, the track creates a magical dreamscape that is dripping with enough sunshine and rainbows it could warm even the coldest of hearts. Podge is already proving himself to be one of this year’s brightest stars and one to watch with ‘Yuka-Peno’ being picked up by both BBC London and BBC’s Janice Long.
‘Yuka-Peno’ is released on May 3rd via The Label Recordings and Podge will be making his festival debut at Liverpool Sound City on May 5th.
