DSWF is an effective wildlife conservation charity founded by renowned artist and conservationist David Shepherd 35 years ago, which works to fight international wildlife crime from grass roots to the world stage.
The Foundation funds projects across Africa and Asia, and through dedication and hard work has influenced policy, shifted attitudes and provided an unwavering voice for wildlife conservation. To date, DSWF has invested nearly £10m in wildlife conservation projects which protect endangered species such as elephants, pangolins, tigers, chimpanzees, snow leopards, lions, painted dogs and rhinos.

at Mall Galleries in London.
Wildlife Artist of the Year showcases the beauty and drama of the natural world, supporting some of the finest and most exciting wildlife artists, and raising vital awareness and funds to protect endangered species.
Now in its twelfth year, the internationally-renowned competition brings together talented artists and art-lovers from across the world to celebrate our planet’s diverse wildlife through exciting and dynamic wildlife art.

& Runner - Up
The overall winner of the competition, earning the £10,000 prize generously donated Neil and June Covey, was ‘Writhe’ by Stephen Rew, an incredible dynamic sculpture of an octopus, made from solid bronze, climbing around a wall.
The runner-up was the incredibly detailed ‘Reflections’, a scratchboard depiction of a lionfish by Tamara Pokorny.

The 152 finalist artworks will be exhibited and on sale
at the Mall Galleries, London
from Wednesday 29 May until 1pm Sunday 2 June.
50% of every sale will go directly to saving endangered species and fighting wildlife crime across Africa and Asia.
The winner Stephen Rew, alongside David Shepherd’s Granddaughter Emily Lamb, artist Emily Tan and star of Channel 4’s Watercolour Challenge Hazel Soan will be hosting a painting workshop at the exhibition on Wednesday 29th May

The Judging Panel
The judging panel for this year’s competition comprised a variety of artists including:
- Mandy and Melanie Shepherd are both David Shepherd’s daughters. Mel is a practicing artist and Mandy is the Chair of Trustees for the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation
- Gary Hodges is the best-selling pencil artist in the UK. He has received many awards during his career, has been a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists since 1990 and a judge for DSWF's Wildlife Artist of Year competition since its inception.
- Nina Neve used to be the co-ordinator of the Wildlife Artist of the Year competition and has extensive knowledge about art.
- Simon Trapnell was involved in establishing Nature in Art, the world’s first museum dedicated exclusively to art inspired by nature which opened in 1988. Simon is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
- Andrew Stock is a British artist from Buckinghamshire and has been painting wildlife and landscapes since 1978.
- Wendy Feess was born and educated in Zimbabwe. She came to London to enter the world of interior design and whilst in Hong Kong assisted in the compilation of a catalogue of Japanese wood-block prints for the Metropolitan Museum.
- Hazel Soan is one of Britain’s most admired watercolourists, well-known for her ‘Splash of Colour’ series with Anglia TV and her role as an art expert on Channel 4’s ‘Watercolour Challenge’.
