About
'Polaroids & Violence'
Recorded at The Lounge in Wigan with producer Gareth Nuttall (The Lottery Winners, The K’s, The A.V. Club), ‘Polaroids & Violence’ was written in two very different parts of Abi’s life. Telling the story of how silly mistakes can sometimes turn out to work in your favour, the basis of the song reflects a time of feeling angry at herself for getting so caught up at a party, and another time when she saw her friends struggling at the beginning of a relationship.

Hi Abi we love the single - I have to start with influences?
I’d say my biggest influences are Blur, Slaves and Fontaines D.C, not necessarily in their style, but I find the way they write songs interesting, I’d say another influence is Girl In Red as she’s quite a powerful woman on the scene at the moment.
Are you hand on with production?
When I’m in the studio I’m awe of the guys I’m working with. For the past two singles I’ve worked with Gaz Nuttall at The Lounge in Wigan, the guy is just a genius, not only that, he’s a proper nice guy and ace to work with. With recording I have a very specific sound in my head and none of us will stop till it’s perfect, recording Polaroids & Violence with Luke Griffith (drums & guitar) and Isobelle Taylor (Bass) was perfect because we all had the same vision in our heads. So I’d like to say we were all hands on during the production.
And playing live are you at home on stage?
Playing live is honestly my favourite thing to do, and to be up there with my best mates is just an added bonus, we all bounce off each other and it’s the biggest high I could ever feel. Although, leading up to it I’m an absolute nervous wreck. You could ask anyone who sees me before a gig. I can’t even speak. I am absolutely in my element on stage though, I love it
Were you always musical or did you share the art with another- writing-paintings?
The thing is, when I was younger, I could not sing, my parents sat me down and told me that I probably wouldn’t get a part in the nativity because I sung badly. Bare in mind I was 7, I did start acting though and I think naturally with the classes I was going to I ended up singing and realised I wasn’t that bad anymore. When I was in high school I wanted a day out of lessons so I helped out with the summer festival doing the sound, but I ended up singing because someone had an exam. That’s what really kicked stuff off for me.
There's nothing like proving your parents wrong.. ;-)
About where you're from, do you feel part of a community, a scene?
I love coming from the warrington music scene just because we have so many amazing bands from the local areas, The K’s, The lottery Winners and Crawlers are all amazing bands and it’s a pleasure to say I have gigged in some of the same venues around warrington as them.
And finally the stereotypical last question... What's next for Abi Rose Kelly?
What’s next is always a question I ask myself, planning the next step is always a difficult one, as my Mum would say, world domination, but for me I think it’s getting people to hear my music. And keeping things as current as I can. I’m excited to see where things go. Thinking big, I’d love to gig out of the country. As I’ve never been on a plane to travel the world because of music is just an absolute goal
Abi thanks so much, keep in touch - Fran x
