SALOMEA
(14th April 2023) German-American contemporary jazz electronica band SALOMEA release their unapologetically defiant new single ‘Eriqua’ today, released on Cologne-based label M.O.T.H.E.R.
The track comes out together with a graphic, futuristic video shot in a dystopian countryside, complete with horse, tractor and piglet, featuring lead singer Rebekka Salomea and directed by cutting-edge German director Fisch.
SALOMEA’s latest offering stays true to the band’s distinctive hip hop infused jazz, RnB and electronic sound. The trappy, spacious beat of ‘Eriqua’ creates an intriguing soundtrack for this simple, yet deeply honest message with bold, sassy vocals that manifest the lyrics, laid down via edgy, vibrant spoken word and vocals. The sensual half-time feel of the song gets richer and fuller, with slick, layered vocals and sound design, building up to let loose with harps and sirens in the hooky chorus which proudly declares “I’ve changed and I like it like that!”.

‘Eriqua’ is highly personal, as written by Rebekka Salomea, who said “Thirteen again, ‘Eriqua’ is based on a real person, real events and is a coming of age 2.0. For all those seeking to break free from psychological manipulation by embracing their differences and owning the change and growth that only comes with time. ‘Eriqua’ offers a closer look at what SALOMEA really is. Shedding another layer of disguise, by sharing the path and transmuting the pain into art.”
SALOMEA are Rebekka Salomea (vocals, spoken word, songwriting), Yannis Anft on keys, Oliver Lutz on bass and Leif Berger on drums. Inspired by Hiatus Kaiyote, Little Dragon, Flying Lotus and the Brainfeeder label, SALOMEA have collaborated with Brainfeeder artists Louis Cole, Genevieve Artadi and Salami Rose Joe Louis, as well as multimedia artists like Luise Zücker, Sophie Yukiko, Svenja Trierscheud, Toy Toy, Gianni Brezzo and NDR Big Band.
The band’s 2020 album ‘Bathing In Flowers’ was released through the pandemic and landed SALOMEA firmly into the European music scene, seeing them light up some of the hottest festivals stages like co Pop, XJAZZ, Berlin Popkultur, Moers Festival (Germany) Jazzablanca (Morocco) and Avignon Jazzfestival (France) and winning them an ardent fanbase along the way. SALOMEA have been incredibly prolific the past few years, releasing 2021 singles ‘Boss Time’ and ‘Mercury’, multiple EPs from trap-remix EP ‘Drowning In Flowers’ (2021), ‘Conversations’ (2021) and the recent 2022 singles ‘Holiday Season’ and stunning prior offering ‘Love U’.
