Carla Lane loved animals. Almost as much as her Grandad who dedicated his life to them and put his poetry on the back burner. Thats one of the reasons i get her. People who love animals get each other.
With her friend Linda McCartney and Rita Tushingdon she bought an Island off the coast of Wales in the early 90's and The Animal Line animal sanctuary was born.
In 2002 she returned her OBE to Blair in protest to animal cruelty.
In 1969 Myra Taylor and Carla Lane arrived in London and met with the BBC. They presented a pilot of The Liver Birds....
At some point here Myra parted company. She was more working class than Carla, but her sense of humour was integral.... What happened?
Carla carried on writing scripts.
What followed was Butterflies, a hard sell... A comedy about a Woman thinking of having an affair....
It was brilliant, even my Dad watched it on his level...
Autobiographical?
When Bread came out the nation was hooked.... This time a Matriarch was holding a family together and getting a laugh?
Genius observation and writing.
I remember an interview when she recalled saying to herself ...I must be a writer....
What a wonderful Women and up there on a list of Special British Writers who changed culture.
