Tag Heuer F1
In 1986, Heuer the famous Swiss brand was acquired by Techniques d’ Avant Garde (“TAG”) and this was the first model they produced as TAG Heuer. (Which is why it's Quality)
It used a quartz movement radically moving away from the famously expensive Heuer automatic movements. Cheaper to produce less expensive to buy.
It was a watch of it's time using a stainless steel inner case coated with fibreglass. (a whole stainless steel case was added in 87) with bright colours and combinations thereof.
Priced at around £195 I think? (My brother remembers this price, mine was £250 with a stainless strap)

"The series one F1 Tag has become a collectors piece, not on any monetary level they can still be bought relatively cheaply; but because it is a such an important watch historically."
The one thing Heuer and Tag had in common was formula One. Heuer had sponsored Ferrari in the 70's and Tag were the main Williams sponsor 79-82
Hence the name.
Both my brother and myself still wear our F1's on a daily basis. They remain accurate 30 years on, when we meet another owner our sleeves are quick to go up and a smile and a chat is assured...
My best mate John P gave his F1 to his Son after he purchased his Omega which loses A minute a day....
Don't be fooled by the series Two. It doesn't have the same je ne c'est quo, and wasn't over developed like the original.
Buying into Watch history has never been so cheap, but good ones will soon appreciate. Just like their owners...

July 2017 post script...below mine just back from having new battery and pressure test...done by - "t Jewellery" 61 The Broadway - just by the clock tower in Crouch End. Excellent service for half the price of some quotes. When I checked the time (I have to have exact time...) it was to the second! And it's also the cleanest it's been in years. Tells me something about a jeweller...I need to get a new bezel for him to fit. Highly recommend.
Previously it's had around 3 visits to Tag for servicing. Including a new ratchet for the bezel, new bezel, (ready for another) and pressure tests after battery refit. (no not like Trigger's broom!)
