First published last year but I'm revisiting because Sara recently dropped one of her prints off for me, (Below)  and we just Love It!  I'm going to give it to Daisy, she's just had a 13th Birthday and she loves Amy Winehouse. Look out for a proper catch up with Sara soon -  pauliepaul

​Oh my I'm republishing this again Feb 2020 with the addition of the Jack Nicholson image of the print (below) which I will take delivery of when Sara remembers. The thing I love about it most is that it's a small version she did for me. Which 'IS Special' even more special than her art normally Is!

​I’ve known Sara a few years now, I met her not knowing she was an artist and then some time later when I started Phacemag, she was having an exhibition In Crouch End. I was hooked. The tube train painting alone would be on my desert Island discs (paintings) I think Sara is a very important artist and along with her contemporaries (Susan Diamond springs to mind); is championing a new, fresh, yet serious approach to British art, away from publicity seeking Turner nonsense.

​Hi Sara thanks for this, where to start?
Can you recall the first painting/work you did that made you feel like an artist?
Have you still got it?

My first painting that pushed me into selling art was a gold hoodie and when some friends of mine saw it, they convinced me to enter it into a London riot art exhibition, it sold and I was lured into the world of art.

I have to ask because it’s so important, what/who inspired you?

The artist I was most overwhelmed with and has inspired me the most was Gerhard Richter and the variety in his work from hyper photo realistic work to abstract.
And I need to mention Richard Hamilton whose work blew me away when I saw an exhibition at the national portrait gallery!

If you could spend a day with any artist past or present who would it be?

I think Salvador Dali would be my choice for spending a day with.

I have a section about books that inspired you, anything spring to mind?

 I'm not a book reader but as a child I was obsessed with Agatha Christie and read every single one, including some under her pseudonym Mary Westmacott and her books on her life with her archaeologist husband Max Mallowan in the Middle East during escalation digs

​If you could have any painting back...which would it be?

I painted a little ballerina which sold on the day it dried to a lady in Florence Italy, and I really liked it and never had any time with it.

Have you got a set way of working? Like a writer writing so many words a day? Or is it more inspired/emotional driven?

I have no set pattern, but once I start I find it hard to stop, and could paint for hours and days on end.

What would you tell yourself if you could get a message to the 12 year old Sara Sutton....

Oh my lord, what would I tell myself? I love this question paulie, and I would tell myself to try harder, travel further and stay in touch with everyone.
