TWO FROM TIM BURGESS - TIM BOOK TWO & - TELLING STORIES
I've put Amazon links but don't forget you can get the whole Charlatans back catalogue including books on the The Charlatans smartphone App @apps.charlatans.net or Click Pic Link below.
"After the success of his memoir,
Telling Stories, Tim set himself a quest. He got in touch with people he admires, and asked them to suggest an album for him to track down on his travels, giving an insight into what makes them tick, while also giving Tim a chance to see how record shops around the world were faring in the digital age. Sending out texts, phone calls, emails and handwritten notes to the likes of Iggy Pop, Johnny Marr, David Lynch and Cosey Fanni Tutti, here is the tender, funny and surprising story of what came back." |
Telling Stories the iconic Rock & Roll tale needs no introduction. I think Paolo Hewitt would have been proud of this one. -pp-

AUTOFELLATIO - JAMES MAKER
One for the book club here, by all accounts a very entertaining read from James Maker. Tales of pop stardom and snippets about his friend Morrissey. James was in Raymonde in the 80's.
I haven't read this book but I know it will be interesting, below is quote I found on YouTube, listen below..remind you of anyone... make your own mind up ... -Tim- to be cont.. "He was the vocalist in Raymonde (1980s) and RPLA (1990s). He is a true original. This song is from a batch of demos he recorded known as The Milwaukee Sessions. Absolutely no copyright infringement is intended.

"James Maker is one of the great lost voices of British pop music. Little has been heard from him since he released a single on Morrissey’s Attack label in 2004 (I’m Unbearable). In an age where flaccid mediocrities are showered with praise James Maker was ignored and shunted off into the margins."

This clip has been uploaded and made by fans for fans and not for profit or gain. Copyright of the music belongs to James Maker and the Nico images belong to their respective owners. James Maker has written a wonderful autobiography called ‘Autofellatio’. It can be bought for Kindle on Amazon and a paperback edition can be ordered from all good disreputable bookshops. He also provides a glorious vocal on Saunders Ferry Lane from Boz Boorer’s album Sum Of The Parts (2012)."

GOODNIGHT JIM BOB & STORAGE STORIES
Another Jim Bob book for our second interesting read. Storage Stories was his first book of fiction, taking the longest to write as First books often do.
Storage Stories is fast approaching that cult book status, its semi autobiographical style along with countless famous characters...or are they?! A story of lost fame and French Actresses down at the storage unit. Yes, I Love It. Click the link below, but the best way to buy is from Jim Bob, I will put a link on the pic right. He might even sign you a copy... Do yourself a favour, have a listen below - a proper listen! |
Two great interesting reads for you here. Firstly Goodnight Jim Bob 'On The Road With Carter....' by Jim Bob from Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine. In the early 90's Carter smashed it, with a fanatical fan base tooled up with the best merchandise they clocked up over 800 gigs worldwide. That equated to four top 10 albums including a number one!
Well, this is the tale Jim Bob survived to tell, and fascinating it is too! Fan or not, It's a great account of still one of the most innovative bands of our time. Yes I am a fan! |

FINDING THOMAS DAMES
Lynne Morley
Finding Thomas Dames is the moving true life story of Lynne Morley's ancestor, who, as a child, turned to a life of petty crime in order to survive the grim streets of Georgian Nottingham, one of the most poverty stricken cities of that era. A city where life was cheap, disease was rife and the grim figure of death was an ever present companion. Apprehended by the law on many, many occasions, and labelled an "Incorrigible Rogue", Thomas felt the full force of the law on frequent occasions before the irritated judiciary sentenced him to be transported to the new penal colonies in Western Australia. The incredible story reveals how this happens not once - but twice! Sent south on the convict ship, Lincelles, Thomas endures a three month journey of brutality and privation. This scarcely believable story is unearthed by Lynne and painstakingly recreated here. As the author says, Thomas' life was so tragic, it is stranger than fiction. |

I have to admit it was the Nottingham connection that caught my eye, being born on a council estate in the city I am very proud of my birth place. However, as I read the foreword further, the family connection and the search for the story surrounding Thomas added to my curiosity so much so, well I'll tell you more when I've read it! - paulie 🌹 |
