A well known A list actor has been mentioned in the same breath but .. Cough! de Nero - we're not sure of his identity.
My partner Jo is particularly looked after when she visits, having worked there during it's golden years. Fran the bar manager called her "the Butter Queen" as he brought her a glass of fizz...
We had a perfect corner table (inside knowledge) I ordered off the set menu, a lovely sardines starter, followed by chopped steak which was perfect. Daisy had a chicken burger and sweet potato fries off the set menu - then I hi jacked her second course and chose a gorgeous cheese board. |
Jo ordered a cheese burger which was perfect judging by the noises she mmmmd.
PHACE FOOD - JOE ALLEN EXETER ST COVENT GARDEN WC2
We had a lovely welcome from Maxine as we entered Joe Allen @13 Exeter St WC2. It was a special family lunch on the Friday before new year. My lovely Jo had been promising a visit since she found out about the planned relocation? |

The plans are sketchy but it's said that the building and surrounding buildings have been purchased by a development company for the purpose of building a luxury hotel.

The whole place was buzzing, history adorns the walls in the form of photographs. Famous actors were - are regular visitors.
Try and visit while you can, we're sure it will carry on in some new incarnation, but it might not match the magic of now. I thought the meal was excellent value, and we got looked after perfectly.... 10/10 😊 pauliepaul |

Below a poem by Paul Roberts 🌹
Good Night 13 Exeter Street (Joe Allen)
There are ghosts here
In this room that will disappear
Long dead musical posters
Aged bar no need for coasters
Yves commanded the bar
Shooting drinks down so far
To land in front of guests impressed
Thirty years this place blessed
Richard managed from afar
First restaurant that was a bar
After eleven and with brunch
Without him would not have been such
Rachel glowed at the door
Taken early that is a sore
My heart goes out to Louis and Brad
All the times they could have had
With the chefs they were blessed
Martin knew talent and addressed
Social imbalances
A real Mensch
Jimmy he could hold a tune
He took Rock Hudson to Heaven
On a hot hot night in London
After puttin Liz Taylor in a taxi
And to all those that are still alive
A little piece of us dies tonight
The place I found a wife
The place I felt welcome
Hugs and kisses from people I love
I think I am not alone in thinking
This is a very sad night.
