Mark Charles is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in Louisville, Kentucky. Primarily known as the principal singer/songwriter for the indie-folk outfit Vandaveer, Mark began releasing solo music during the pandemic-plagued summer of 2020. His 2022 Single of the Month series officially launched this month with the new single, “Different Names,“ which WFPK called “beautifully insightful” and written by “one of our favorite singer/songwriters anywhere.”

​Created and co-written with Grammy-nominated producer Justin Craig (Hedwig & The Angry Inch), the track features a host of fellow Kentuckians, including Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket) on drums, cellist Ben Sollee, and horn arrangements by Matt Duncan, among others. A live video performance at Louisville’s La La Land Studios, shot just before the pandemic turned the world upside down, accompanies the single.
