Song Writers.
When two gifted people find a way to work together and put aside personal differences to create music it is magical.
But then i thought about other creative mediums. (Well Jo reminded me) Script writers, comedy partnerships.
Even me and my best mate John P writing on the tube on the way to one of my 7 stand out comedy performances....
Wish we had started sooner....
So is that it? Meeting at the right time?
Famously Lennon and McCartney met when Paul was 15 and John was 16.
Then i find out Bernie Taupin answered a song writing ad when he was 17... And wait for it... Elton John answered the same ad....
Elton and Bernie are probably the bench mark. Because of the way they wrote the songs. Both trusting in the others brilliance but writing separately. Sometimes on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Elton Johns Albums without Bernie....
Lennon and McCartney were different. You can listen to any Beatles song and say who predominantly wrote it. But they overlapped to the point of genius.
I love the story of 'A Day in The Life' written by Lennon until McCartney walks in and adds ...... "Woke Up....."
The meeting of these two has changed the face of music and the world? Who could argue?
In 1953 two high school boys would meet on stage in a production of 'Alice in Wonderland.' Their names Simon and Garfunkel. They were drawn together by their love of music, and at this very young age they would practice harmonies together. They lived within a few blocks of each other in New York City.
However, first records were not successful and they parted. It would take until the mid 60's for their partnership to take over the western world. Although they seemed to fight the connection that they had. They both had successful solo careers, Paul Simon notably with Graceland. And Art with a string of acting roles. They were successful apart.... But together... Central Park Sept 19th 1981!
Not sure what i've achieved writing this, because individually everyone i've mentioned would have shined. But the chance meeting? Maybe young enough to be open? To young for ego? Made it somehow extra ordinary.
