After moving cities and undergoing several line-up changes since their first single, Richard Carlson Band’s signature sound and core songwriting team of Cadman and Carrick has remained.
The songs on Mother’s Intuition retain the lurching mid-tempo menace, brooding spoken vocals, persistent bass riffs and unsettling droning synths of previous singles while developing their sound over 40 minutes.
Richard Carlson Band juxtapose the more direct sounds of Brute, Dean On Deansgate and Langham’s Lies with the country-esque retro sounding The Ballad Of J.M.
The more experimental moments on the album retain their darkly humorous lyrics and surprisingly catchy choruses such as the continually off-kilter Barrymore’s Pool Party always returning to its sing-along chorus.
