THE BRISTOL BULLET
I've avoided the new Bristol Bullet it has to be said, because when you feel about a car manufacturer like I do about Bristol Cars; and have done for 40 years..
Well you want to like the new model. ... It was a Bank Holiday Monday morning and y lovely Jo and I were returning from a Full Circle party we'd enjoyed the previous day/night in Fulham. (Yes it was a cracking party) |
As the lights turned to red on Kensington Hight St, right outside the Bristol showroom well I saw the beautiful 411 series 1 first. Then I was forced to face my fear, the Bullet was there, large as life and It looked amazing!
Back safely in North London i was soon researching. A return to BMW for the power plant after all these years - intelligent but that's it for the car stuff for now. |
The rest is how I feel about this car, and it felt/feels right. Subtle styling nods to Bristols of old, but more important, the same unique confidence in a special car I felt when Tony Crook and I chatted about the Fighter all those years ago. I would have loved a modern Tesla power plant union, but maybe that or the like is on it's way.
For now though, Bristol Cars is back and i'm very glad. -paulie-

When Tony Crook, Called Me Up.
When Tony Crook called me up.I was sitting on my bed in my flat on Crouch Hill.
I wasn't sure who it was at first and why he had called.
Then when he said he had a rather nice 411 coming in and would I like to see it?
I was at Kensington Hight Street before he put the phone down.
An afternoon spent talking to Tony Crook with my best friend John P.
Is such an important part of my life, and try and buy and afternoon listening to Tony Crook.
His tales of Bristol planes and Bristol cars.
What a privilege that i'll keep forever, hanging on his every word.
I liked him so much so, that when he died I was so sad.
I said he phoned me up one day.
To all my friends, anyone who would listen.
But I don't think anyone heard.
I don't think anyone knew.
How important it was.
When Tony Crook, called me up.
