The Stone Roses - Spike Island 1990
In 1990 The Stone Roses could have played any venue in the world.
They chose a man made island in the Mersey Estuary.
May 27th was approaching fast. The band were facing a criminal damages charge which could have put them away. (I'm not 100% but i think it was spray painting a car over an unauthorised Sally Cinnamon promo?)
Hands up who was there? I'll put a link to an NME article but i think 30,000 were there and 60,000 said they were...
I was at Glasgow Green months later with my best mate John P. They came on stage and sang, i can't remember Ian saying a word in between songs.
I love that the Stone Roses turned up for the Spike Island gig in a minibus, not a helicopter...
And i'm glad i'm not jealous that i wasn't there. But only because Glasgow Green will be the new Spike Island more and more as i get older....
