When do you know that your an artist? I painted several canvases, not because I thought I was an artist just because I had an idea that I wanted to paint a picture of. I just felt a fraud when I heard art critics/historians saying how this stroke meant that, and the subtle this was clearly indicating a lustful night in Paris for him during his pissed period.
This was before I did a late degree at University however, before I was saved by Roland Barthes essay.
Because according to him ...
I was after a time a lot more confident with my poetry, prose, whatever it's labelled. Because with those I did have a subject, and a subject that I felt so emotional about I could easily write them. Later I would return to them and edit, for aesthetic, for depth, but they always had the emotional content which I couldn't have written them without!
Maybe that's why I'm not an artist, by my own admission I didn't put much emotion into my canvases.
I do have a lot of affection for them though...best pp x
