Live Review
You might recognise the quote below from the Phacemag - 'Squeeze' Tour preview we published last week. You can read more about the tour if you click the click above. As promised we were at the Indigo O2 for what was a special night. Jo Sims put it into words below and a special thanks to Nicky J Sims for the brilliant photographs! Best pp
"Lauded as a song writing duo, Difford and Tilbrook have been compared to Lennon and McCartney since ‘Take Me I’m Yours’ – their first release in 1978 which blasted Squeeze into the forefront of the UK music scene. Following up with hits such as ‘Cool For Cats’, ‘Up The Junction’, ‘Goodbye Girl’, 'Pulling Mussels From The Shell', “Tempted”, and so many more, Squeeze established themselves as not just a passing footnote in New Wave history, but as an important and vital part of quintessential British music."
Review by Jo Sims
Playing to an audience of die-hard fans can be tricky - they have supported you unwaveringly over the years but if you fail to satisfy they won't hesitate to let you know. So for Squeeze, this return to their home turf of Greenwich could have gone one way or another... but this band are seasoned pros and their set is well practiced and seamless.
From the moment the first song started they had the audience in the palms of their hands, and there they were held firmly, until the last notes of the last song trailed off.
All the old faves were included in the set, (the ones you are seemingly born knowing), along with a smattering of new classics from the past couple of decades and a couple of solo gems from Chris (Difford) and Glen (Tilbrook). The talent is undeniable and their current band line-up shows off the songs and the camaraderie perfectly.
A Squeeze show is a guaranteed night of great entertainment and the crowd showed their appreciation by dancing, singing and cheering which created a very happy, warm and vibrant atmosphere which kept me cosy on the long tube journey home. Jo Sims
